If you are like me and have a full time job and trying to study part time then you will understand that holidays are really few and difficult to get so you want to make the most of your vacations. Christmas is coming up, and as you start thinking about your vacation plans i hope these tips will be helpful.
Picking a Hotel
I learn't when i came to this country for Uni never to trust website images. Hahah! Do your research, read online reviews about the place. Check the distance to local dining and entertainment areas. You don't wanna stay in a hotel that is really nice but you have to travel long for entertainment. Try to strike a balance between luxury and cost. When i'm on vacation i certainly want to live like a VIP but i don't wanna break the bank either. Save money by picking a hotel with free breakfast. Instead of having to spend for breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between, if you have free breakfast you can save up for other activities.
Purchase your flight ticket early
You can get really good deals by purchasing your ticket in advance. Sometimes that can be difficult because you might not have finalised your travelling dates but at least do a booking. Waiting for last minute can cost you 10%-15% extra than purchasing early.
Plan your activities
Thinking about what you want to do and the places you want to visit will help in setting bugets and also knowing what to pack. You also won't waste time thinking of what to do during your vacation since everything is planned out. Advance planning also helps prevent disappointments for example sold out tickets for events or marked up prices on weekends.
Determine your spending budget
This will help you save costs and ensure that you are spending within your means. You don't want a weeks worth of spending to go unaccounted for, then return from your holiday and be broke. Set a spending budget and stick to it. Of course there are exceptions and sometimes you might need to spend extra but having a budget helps you stay within the boundary.
Packing like a Pro
You don't wanna carry so much especially if you will visit different cities and you don't wanna miss out on carrying essentials either. Over the years I've learnt to travel light, this allows me to shop and not have to pay for excess luggage when coming back home. Think about how long you will be staying and that should also help determine your luggage size. Since you already know the activities you'll do, list down what you will need and only pack what is necessary.
Inform your card companies you are travelling
You wanna ensure that if you run out of cash your ATM card will work. Most VISA cards will work internationally however do give your bank a heads up in case your card for some reason has different terms or conditions.
Have fun

DeleteThese are some great tips, girlie! I haven't traveled in a couple of years, but whenever I do, I only stay in all inclusive resorts because it's much more affordable. There have been times when we've ventured outside the resort to eat amongst the locals, but have found that depending on the area, it can be quite expensive, but it can also be really cheap, so I guess knowing those areas are key. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead, beauty!

DeleteI really like the tip on buying your ticket early , those airlines can be really smart when placing a price on the ticket ,just because there is a rush in people buying tickets during the holidays. Great post.

Deletelove this post! i agree with you that you can't trust website images for hotels! Haha! i usually read reviews before deciding on a hotel. one time my mom and i went to japan and the pictures of the hotel looked nice. we did not read the reviews. when we got there turns out it was motel! there were condoms and a vibrator on the bedside table! it was weird! we decided to stay there because we already paid for it. and it would be difficult to argue because of the language barrier. it was embarrassing! haha!
ReplyDeleteOMG hahahaha wat a funny story. Ya i'v had bad experiences before from just trusting website images so gotta be careful in future.
DeleteThese are great tips, thanks for sharing! It's always good to plan in advance, and I agree one of the most important things to do is to check the reviews for the hotel!
